The Problem
When the 25th anniversary of the iconic TV show Friends came around, Warner Brothers planned an international campaign to celebrate. In addition to other marketing events, they wanted to bring the show into the modern era and the hands of its fans using cutting edge technology.
The Solution
In conjunction with Double A Labs, we created native applications for both Android and iOS with features ranging from AR photo booth and stickers to a trivia game, and a brand new ARKit 3-only experience for iOS. At its peak, the app broke the top 20 Entertainment apps in the App Store, and currently boasts over 100,000 downloads in Google Play. Photo booth is one of the most popular features, and by using multithreading we were able to handle running video processing and AR at the same time in the photo booth while still offering a smooth user experience. The most revolutionary app feature is Point-N-Pivot, an ARKit 3 game that uses people segmentation and occlusion to create a vertical Twister-like experience. Though this feature is available only on iPhones XR and later, fans can still access other features like photo booth, unlockable content and trivia on earlier devices and Android phones.
